Delora Leigh Coleman Barnes, 69, widow of her true love, Charles Barnes, and daughter of Jewell Coleman and Katherine Bentley, departed this life on September 4, 2022. Along with her husband and parents, she is reunited in heaven with her brothers, Lonnie Coleman and Howard Coleman and her sister, Connie Coleman. She will be greatly missed by her brother, George Michael Coleman (Janet) of Reno, Nevada, her nieces, Bonnie Stinnett (Mark), Misty Ellis, Stephanie Prather, Tera Coleman, Glenda McIntosh (Glenn) and one nephew, Troy Coleman (Danielle).
Aunt Dory, as she was adoringly referred to by all who knew her, was revered and loved as a second grandmother by her great nieces and nephews, Kayleigh Adams (Tyler), Nikita Shepherd (Tim), Terry Prather, A.C. Thompson (Caitlyn), Michael Thompson, Adam Prather (Alexis), Kevin Porta (Hope), Brandon Thompson, Josh Prather (Katelyn), Sydney Ellis (Lance) and Kylee Prather, as well as all of their children. Aunt Dory touched the lives of many others and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Betts and West Funeral Home. A graveside funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Athens Cemetery, 6295 Athens Boonesboro Rd, Lexington, KY 40509. Tim Shepherd will officiate the service and Aunt Dory’s great nephews will serve as pall bearers. All guests are requested to wear colorful clothing to the services.
