Johnnie Edward Benedict, 77, husband of Deva Ann Rainwater Bottoms Benedict, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022, at his home in Nicholasville. He was born in Jessamine County to the late Johnnie Lee Benedict and Agnes Maples Benedict on September 18, 1944. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a mechanic. In addition to his wife, Deva, he is survived by a son, John Benedict Jr., five daughters, Cindy (Mike) Drury, Lycia (Danny) Carpenter, Sandy Ferguson, Kelly (Duane) Kirby, and Bobbie Mae (Jeff) Fryman, a brother, Billy (Janet) Benedict, a sister, Loretta Mattingly, as well as sixteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Wells Benedict, and two grandchildren. Services will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Betts & West Funeral Home, with Bro. Bill Bales officiating. Casket bearers will be Matthew True, Josh True, Willie Costley, Eric Carpenter, Travis Carpenter, B.J. Penland, and Robert Penland, and honorary bearers will be Hayden Benedict and Scotty True. Burial will follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Betts & West is honored to serve the Benedict family in their time of need.
