Allen Woods Richards

Allen Woods Richards, age 94, husband of Zell W. Richards, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at his home on Taborlake Drive in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in Tyrone, Kentucky on February 24, 1926 to the late George Richards and Alice Shyrock Beasley. He graduated from Kavanaugh High School in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Allen, known by his friends and family as Woody, was a retired mail carrier and U.S. Marine Veteran.

Woody will be lovingly remembered as a true gentleman, always thoughtful and ready to lend a kind hand. He was a constant source of warmth and laughs. He took pleasure in humor and was an absolute king of witty one-liners. Woody enjoyed fishing, watching the Kentucky Wildcats play, and caring for those around him. His great love for his family and firm belief in God guided him through life and gave him peace. He never went a day without a heartfelt prayer and is now rejoicing with his Heavenly Father.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheri (Stephen) Wiggins, and Patti (David) Simpson, stepdaughter, Karen (Craig) Chiles and two stepsons, Gerald Fields and Greg (Kathy) Fields, grandchildren, Robert (Cara) Coleman, Elizabeth (Elijah) Taylor, Rebecca (Thad) Winter, David (Katherine) Simpson and Jeremy (Emily) Simpson, step grandchildren, Summer (Javier) Rovira, Chase Fields, Timothy West, Danielle (Corey) Johnson, Ashley (Jeff) Orberson and Kasey Fields. Services will be 12:30 PM, Friday, December 4, 2020 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Stephen Wiggins officiating. Betts & West Funeral Home is honored to serve the Richards Family. Interment will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
