Charles A. Daugherty

Charles A. Daugherty, 90, of Waverly, OH, formerly of Lexington and Nicholasville, passed away December 24, 2009. He was born in Menifee County, KY on September 3, 1919 to Alexander Hamilton Daugherty and Serina Bell Pelfrey. He attended the University of Kentucky where he met and married Elizabeth Vera Featherston on February 25, 1942. They were married for 65 years. He joined the United States Air Force where he served as a Sergeant in the 2138th Army Air Force. He was in the Ardennes Air Offensive, Normandy, North France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He served for four years and received the silver and two bronze stars. He was employeed with Johnson Controls, Inc. for approximately forty years in Lexington, KY. He was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #452. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple. Survivors incude a daughter, Margaret Daugherty (Frederick) Foill, a son, Charles Albert (Melissa) Daugherty Jr., his grandchildren, Charles Lewis, Margaret Lewis and Frederic Foill IV. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth and his brothers, Melvin, Omer, Dan, Raymond and Bruce Daugherty. Services will be 12:30 Monday, January 4th at Betts & West Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:30am until service time. Interment will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Donations are suggested to Pike Community Foundation, 100 Dawn Lane, Waverly, OH 45690.
