Charles Monroe

Charles Monroe, 87, went to be with the lord on October 12, 2010. He was the son of Charles and Dottie Monroe from Salem, Kentucky. Born May 18, 1923 he was married to Elba Weldon Monroe, of Marion, Kentucky in 1942.

During their 67 year marriage they lived in Salem and Marion Kentucky, Kalispell, Montana, lakes of The Four Seasons in Crown Point Indiana and finally settling in Nicholasville, Ky. He was most proud of the fact that during World War II he served in the 3rd Army Infantry under General George Patton in Europe. He was a member of Disabled Veterans of America. A 55 year member of the Indiana Board of Realtors and held the position of President of the Northern Indiana Board of Realtors in the early 1980's. He was a lifelong member of the Salem Kentucky Masonic Lodge and a member of the Glen Park Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana. He enjoyed traveling across the country, playing golf with his buddies in Indiana and Kentucky, singing and playing the guitar, and watching baseball.

He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his brother, James Monroe of Evansville, IN. his son, Gerry Monroe his wife Betty of Nicholasville KY, two grandchildren, Michael Monroe, Crown Point IN. and Renee Monroe, Louisville, KY. Two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Griffin Monroe, Crown Point, IN. Memorial Services will be at Boyd's Funeral Home in Salem Kentucky on Friday, October 15, 2010 with visitation at 11AM and a military service to follow at 2:30PM.
