Clarkie Edwards, 91, husband of Thelma Blankenship Edwards, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center. He was born in Owsley County, Kentucky, on February 3, 1932, to the late Charlie Edwards and Emma (Fields) Edwards. He worked as a missionary for the corrections system and was a veteran of the United States Army. Clarkie was a simple man. His unwavering faith and his priorities, God first and family. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He loved being with family. He loved family reunions where he could spend time with his sisters and their families. He loved soul winning. He cared about people's souls he knew and strangers too. He loved sowing seed for Christ and sowing seed in the ground. He worked for the Lord for over 30 years. He continued to show his love for Christ even in the nursing home where he lived. He loved his ministry work in the jails and prisons. He loved to watch people grow in Christ Jesus and he loved to watch things grow in his garden and orchard. He loved his church brothers and sisters. Clarkie is survived by his wife, Thelma; son, Dwayne Edwards (Kim); daughters, Rhonda Sue Callaway (Charles), and Sandy Green (Bill); sister, Ivery Becknell; grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Amanda Baker, Jake Green, and Neal Green; as well as five great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Children by marriage, James Slone and Brenda Lunsford. In addition to his parents, Charlie and Emma, he is preceded in death by wife, Patsy (Taylor) Edwards, grandbabies and four sisters, Virgie Williams, Naomi Smith, Barbara Blake and Georgia Bodner. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Floyd Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, where bearers will be Josh Smith, Neal Green, Jake Green, Bill Green, and Randy Lunsford. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Betts & West is honored to serve Clarkie and his family in their time of need.
