David Allen Buckley

David Allen Buckley born August 15, 1950 in Harrodsburg and died March 23, 2025 after a long fight with cancer. David was the dedicated husband of 52 years to his late wife Sherry Lynn Buckley. He was the loving father of Melissa Cross, her husband Tim and Mandy Buckley and the devoted grandfather of Bennett and Weston Cross

David is the son of the late Albert and Amanda Buckley. He is survived by his brother, Albert (Priscilla) Buckley, Jr. and sister, Judy (Gary) Yunt. He was preceded in death by his sisters Shirley (Jim) Sallee, Helen (Leon) Madden, Janice Faye (John) Sallee and his brothers Bobby (Betty) Buckley and Joe (Vickie) Buckley.

David was a dedicated cattle and tobacco farmer in Jessamine County. He was a devoted steward of the land he tilled and herds he kept. David was one of the first in the region to grow tobacco plants hydroponically. Farmers from all over central Kentucky bought their tobacco plants from David’s greenhouses. After he retired from farming, he enjoyed driving trucks for Burton Excavating, hanging out at the shop, and driving tractors for Jeff Riester.

He is a long term member of the Jessamine County Beef Cattle Association and leaves behind lifelong friends made playing cards on the Beef Cattle educational trips. David served his community through Young Farmers, Soil Conservation Board and Cemetery Board.

David was an excellent marksman and enjoyed shooting 22LR Bench Rest ABRA competitively at BGSL and around the state where he made many friends.

David loved to travel and managed to make it to all 50 states. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Lake Okeechobee with his friends. He loved spending times with his Jessamine County neighbors in Florida.

David spent his life faithfully tending to the land and the people he loved. He will be deeply missed.

Honorary pallbearers: Jeff Riester, Todd Wilson, Allen Collins, Arvin Foster, Eddie Pike, Johnny Gardner, Shane Floyd Bobby Gullette, and his nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Services will be held at 5:00 PM, Thursday, March 27, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Tim Cross officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service, Thursday, at the funeral home.
