Dolores Florence Reynolds passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2016. Born on March 11, 1927 in Deep Haven, Minnesota, she was a daughter of the late Minnie and Richard Park. Nana, as she was known to most everyone, lived a full and active life and brought much joy to everyone that she met.
While she was living and attending business school in Seattle, WA, she met the love of her life, a young Navy sailor, T.J. Reynolds. They lived in Chicago until T.J. received his Doctor of Optometry degree, and then chose Nicholasville, Kentucky for his practice and their home in 1952. Mrs. Reynolds, who was a member of Nicholasville United Methodist Church, was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker and the center of her life was her faith and her family. She was deeply involved in the community as a leader in a wide-range of civic, educational, and charitable organizations, serving as President of the Nicholasville Women's Club. She also held her Realtor's License, and worked as Program Manager for the first cable TV station in the county. She trained to be a small aircraft pilot, was honored as a Kentucky Colonel, and had many interests including a passion for traveling, raising horses, and dancing.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dr. T.J. Reynolds of Nicholasville, KY, daughter Vickie Reynolds (Dr. Edward) Akelman of Barrington, Rhode Island, son Ted (Charlott) Reynolds of Nicholasville, KY, Granddaughters Kassi (JT) O'Brien of Henrico, VA, Dr. Tara Reynolds of Arlington, VA, Grandsons Christopher (Diana) Akelman of Boston, MA, Matthew R. Akelman of Charleston, SC, Great-Grandchildren Evelyn & Addison O'Brien and brother Clyde (Josephine) Park.
Funeral services will be held 10:30am, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Betts & West Funeral Home, with burial in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Nicholasville.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, Wednesday at the funeral home.
