Dr. Theodore Jackson Reynolds III passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 20, 2018. Born on April 25, 1922 in Ravenna, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Tula Jane McCorkle and Theodore Jackson Reynolds II and brother of the late George Reynolds and Virginia Comley. Doc, as he was known to most everyone, lived a full and active life and brought much joy to all that he met with his signature laugh.
While he was stationed as a Young Navy sailor in Bremerton, WA he met the love of his life, the late Dolores Florence Park with whom he shared 70 years of adventures . After he served in The Navy in the Pacific theatre, the couple lived in Chicago until he received his Optometric degree, and then choose Nicholasville to make their home in 1952.
Dr. Reynolds, who was a member of the Nicholasville Methodist Church, was deeply involved in the community as a leader in a wide-range of civic, educational, and charitable organizations, serving as past President of the Rotary Club of Nicholasville, and receiving the prestigious Paul Harris Award. He was a 33* Mason and loved volunteering, especially for educational organizations. He was proud to be a Kentucky Colonel and one of the Founding members of the Lone Oak Country Club & Jessamine County Sportsman Club. In addition, Dr. Reynolds, had many interests including a passion for traveling with the Sunshine RV Campers, developing real estate, fishing and boating on Herrington Lake, and working as a gentleman farmer.
He is survived by his daughter Vickie Reynolds (Edward) Akelman of Barrington, Rhode Island, son (Ted) Theodore J. Reynolds IV (Charlott) of Nicholasville, KY, Granddaughters Kassi (JT) O'Brien of Henrico, VA, Dr. Tara Reynolds of Arlington, VA, Grandsons Christopher Reynolds (Diana) Akelman of Boston, MA, Matthew Reynolds Akelman of Charleston, SC, and Great-Grandchildren Evelyn & Addison O'Brien.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, December 24, 2018 at Betts & West Funeral Home, with burial in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Nicholasville.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm - 7:00pm, Sunday, December 23 at the funeral home. Friends and family may leave condolences and memories on his tribute page at www.bettswest.com.
