Edward Allen Wilday, Sr.

December 22, 1917 — October 9, 2009

Edward Allen Wilday, Sr. (91) died at Hospice in St. Joseph-s Hospital on October 9, 2009. He was born the third of four sons (all deceased) to Harold and Mary Wilday on December 22, 1917 during a blizzard in Centerville, New York.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Arda Haskins Wilday, and four children: Mary (Amos) Tanner of Spencerport, New York; Luci (Chuck) Long of Wilmore, KY; Brenda (Terry) Sisson of Belfast, New York; and Edward Wilday, Jr. of Wilmore, KY. They had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Allen began his live as a dairy farmer, worked in CCC camps during the Great Depression, was an excellent mechanic and a General Contractor for over 40 years. He was involved in the construction of many of the buildings on Houghton College campus in Houghton, New York. For many years, he was an active member of Higgins Wesleyan Church in Higgins, NY. He retired to Wilmore, Kentucky in 1978 where he has lived to the present. He is a member of the Wilmore Free Methodist Church. He is best known for his story-telling, hard work and love for his Lord.

Services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 p.m., with visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilmore Free Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials be given to: The Wilmore Free Methodist Church Building Fund, or OMS International for grandson Jonathan and Corrine Long (missionaries to Hungary), or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
