Elizabeth “Libby” Lee Brumfield, 86, died Sunday, July 28, 2024, at her home on Abby Deeann Drive, Nicholasville. A native of Jessamine County, she was the daughter of Clyde and Elizabeth Morford Brumfield. She graduated from Nicholasville High School, attended Eastern Kentucky University, and earned her BA degree from Transylvania University, and her MA degree from University of Kentucky. She began her almost 35-year career as an elementary teacher in the Walled Lake Michigan Schools, returning to finish her last 30 years in the Fayette County Public Schools. One of her greatest joys was keeping contact with her former students who she considered “her children.” Libby was a member of several professional and Christian organizations, a long-time member of Lexington First Assembly of God, and for the last several years, a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, J.S., Clyde B. “Jack,” and Douglas Wayne Brumfield, as well as sisters, Margaret Harris Brumfield, Virginia Jerden Brumfield, and Nona Brumfield Suell. She is survived by three nieces, Betty Shearer, Nicholasville, KY, Mary Lynn (Larry) Hensley, Venice, FL, and Nancy (Gary Murfin) Brumfield, Kent, WA, a great-niece and great-nephew, and two great-great nephews.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 2, at Centenary Church (2800 Tates Creek Road, Lexington, KY), preceded by visitation there from 12:00 until the time of service. Pastor Zach Davis will officiate the funeral. Burial will immediately follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, where bearers will be Tony Arnold, Howard Downing, Don Gabbard, David West, John West, and Gary Whitaker. Memorial donations are suggested to go to Kentucky Methodist Children’s Home (P.O. Box 930, Nicholasville, KY 40340). Betts & West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
