Ernest 'Stoney' Stone, 86, Nicholasville, formerly of Ashland, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013, after a short illness. Born in Meads Branch, KY, he was the son and baby of 7 children born to the late William and Judy (Howard) Stone. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Waltrud Erika (Shirley), son W Earl of Centreville, VA., daughter Erika Waltrud (Canter), son-in-law (his 'other' son) Scott, Nicholasville, grandchildren Joshua Stone, Las Vegas, N.M., Stephanie Stone, Richmond, Erik and William Canter, Nicholasville, sister-in-law, Erika Waltrud Klingenburg, Berlin, Germany, niece and nephew Ingmar and Claudia Klingenburg, Berlin, Germany, and great grandaughter, Rayleigh Skott Canter.

Ernest was a retired military veteran, having served in the US Army for 20 years. He was a Staff SGT and worked as a Military Police Officer and Demolitions expert. He served as Commander of the Allied Forces stationed at Check Point Charlie during his last tenure in Berlin, Germany. After retiring from the military, he returned home to KY and worked at the US Post Office in Ashland for a short period of time before he began his second career as a Police Officer in Ashland, where he served 21 years as a Patrol Officer (he didn't want to sit behind a desk) before retiring. He was a member of numerous organizations including the FOP, Lodge #3 and the Masonic Hart Lodge # 61. He and his wife later relocated to Nicholasville.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Betts and West Funeral Home, Nicholasville. No visitation. Graveside services and burial will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, KY., dedicated to the entire 2nd floor 2ICU staff, RN's Jamie, Ashley and Diane, Techs Kisha and Amanda, Andy from Respiratory Therapy. Thank you for the love and care you gave him. Drs. Jones, Thompson, Villiran and Rahman. CBH Chaplains for caring for the family while Ernest fought his battle. Jessamine Co EMS who took diligent care in getting Ernest to the hospital.
