Frances Somers Hanson

Frances Somers Hanson, 93, a good and faithful servant of the Lord, went home to Heaven on Sunday, May 24, 2009. Fran was born October 4, 1915 in Faribault, Minnesota to the late Charles Hadden Spurgeon and Lenora Belle Grant Somers. She attended Carleton College and the University of Minnesota. She was an avid figure skater and ice hockey player. Fran lived in Lexington most of her adult life where she worked many years tirelessly in the Lord-s work. She was a sponser for Campus Crusade for Christ at the University of Kentucky and Youth In Action For Christ in local high schools. She helped organize several faith based organizations such as Christian Womens- Club, Faith At Work and Womens- Aglow Fellowship. Fran is survived by a daughter, Corliss West and her husband, Quinn of Lexington, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Hanson Ockerman and a son, Timothy Hanson. Family and friends are invited to attend Fran-s Memorial Celebration, 5:00 pm Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Betts & West Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
