George A. Hager

April 11, 1937 — February 2, 2022

George A. Hager, 84, of Union Mill Road, Nicholasville, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at his home. He was born in Jessamine County on April 11, 1937, to the late Eddie “Jog” and Vina Reynolds Hager. George was a proud resident of Union Mill, a retired farmer, and a horse-trader until the day he died. He also worked at the old distillery at Camp Nelson for 20 years making whiskey but never tasting it once. George loved riding through the countryside, looking for the best trades, and attending the many horse sales across the state that were put on by his horse-trading buddies. He not only loved to trade horses but also enjoyed trading pocket knives and a few guns here and there. In his early life, George loved racing his trucks on the old drag strip in Nicholasville and pulling a good team of horses at the many horse-pulls he attended all across the country. George is survived by his nephew, Jonathan H. (Alissa) Smith, and two great-nieces, Remie Lee and Bracie Lou. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Billy Floyd, niece-in-law, Donna Davis, two great-nephews, Jason (Shari) Davis and Elliott Floyd, and one great-great-nephew, Nathan Davis and his Australian Shepard, Cheyenne. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roscoe Hager and Wallace Hager, three sisters, Louetta Hager (John William) Smith, Anna “Twinkie” Floyd, and Esther (Ray) Davis, two nephews, Eddie Ray Davis and Neal Floyd and Rawhide Frazior. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Betts & West Funeral Home, with Brother Mickey Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers will be David Stinnett, Johnny Hager, Billy Teater, Nathan Davis, Elliott Floyd, and Billy Floyd. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at the funeral home. An online guestbook is available at www.BettsandWestFuneralHome.com.
