Helen Grow Miles Easterly

Helen Grow Mi1es Easterly died at Wesley Village, Wilmore, Kentucky, Sunday, April 5, 2015. She had struggled 12 years with lung disfunction and related complications. She was 82. Mrs. Easterly was a native of Jessamine County and the wife of Ed Easterly III for 50 years. Her parents were the late Elmer Elliott Grow and Claudia Cooley Grow. She was raised on the family Sulphur Well Road farm. She graduated from Little Hickman School in the mid-1940's and decided against a high school education in favor of employment. As a teenage single woman she held assembly line jobs at General Electric and Square D in Lexington, Ky. Helen graduated from Kaufman Beauty School, Lexington, in 1960 and was employed at nearby Lafayette Hair Salon. Not long thereafter she established her own cosmetology business. He1enis Beauty Shop flourished at 864 Wi1more Road in Nicholas- ville for four years up to 1965. At that time she retired and rented the business to succeeding beauticians for several years. He1en was an 11-year member of Wheeler Dealer Square Dance Club of Lexington with her husband through 2000. She was at various times owner of a pet Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, and Keeshond. She enjoyed swimming, traveling, collecting ladies fashion hats, and church activities. Family travels Helen cherished most numbered four. Number 1 was a vacation tour November-December, 1994, that traversed the Holy Land for 10 days, including Jeru- salem and Tel Aviv, Israel. Other favorites were: Hawaiian Islands of Oahu and Maui, 10 days in May-June, 1977; Nassau, Bahama Islands, seven days in February, 1984; and Vancou- ver, British Columbia, Canada, and Alaska, nine days in July, 1993. Surviving children are Jane Miles Teater (Billy), Jessamine County; Kimber E. Payne (Jeff), Lexington; and Eddie Easterly IV, Doraville, Georgia. Grandchildren are Tonya T. Claggett (Shawn), Jessamine County; and Angie-T. Lafferty, Nicholasville. Great grandchildren are Allie, Andy, and Will Claggett, all Jessamine County; and Owen Lafferty, Nicholasville 0 Surviving family members include two sisters-in-law, Joretta Johns Grow and Elisabeth Scott Grow, both of Nicholasville. The decedent was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. They are: Charles E. Grow, Harold Grow, David N. Grow, Eva Dean, Ruth Carter Durham Aubrey, and Margie Horne. Mrs. Easterly was a member of North Lexington Church of Christ. She had divided atten- dance after 1989 at Southland Christian Church in Jessamine County. Funeral service will be at Betts & West Funeral Home in Nicholasville on Thursday, April: 9 at 11:00 a. m. Brother Steve Johnson, Church of Christ, and Rev. Garrett Stephens, Southland, will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Burial will follow funeral service at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County. Pallbearers will be Eddie Easterly, Billy Teater, Ron Easterly, Jeff Payne, Shawn Claggett, Randy Grow, Gerald Cobb, and Glenn Carter. The family of Helen Easterly wishes to thank administrators, nurses, caregivers. and senior residents of Wesley Village who have been excellent supporters and personal friends for three years and two months.
