Henry Alan Stivers

Henry Alan Stivers died November 29, 2018 in Nicholasville, KY. He was born in Louisville, KY on December 24, 1946, as a Christmas present to Oscar Bryant and Juanita Mallette Stivers. He remained a miracle as God granted him four extra years of health following a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. He was a graduate of Owensboro High School and the University of Kentucky (Rank I). He was a consummate teacher throughout his life, loving to mentor high school youth and young adults, especially in God’s Word. He taught 24 years: Crawford Middle School, Bryan Station High School and Jessamine County. For 11 years he worked in the Fayette County Public Schools Central Office as Supervisor of Textbooks and Director of Purchasing. He served His LORD at Trinity, Edgewood, and Porter Memorial Baptist Churches (PBMC) as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, children’s church leader, treasurer, and choir member. He also volunteered and taught Bible Study for ten years at Church Under the Bridge. He is survived by his wife of fifty years Wendellyn Jane Freeman Stivers and daughters Michelle Lee Stivers (Smyrna, GA) and Callie Marie (John) Turk (Palo Alto, CA), and four of the most “fascinating” grandchildren (Bryant Alan Stivers; and Luke William, Kathleen Jane and Ellen Michelle Turk). He is also survived by a first cousin John (Di) Yeager (Jeffersontown, KY). Siblings include Delinda Givens (sister) and Tommy Stivers (brother).A man of great wisdom and wit, he loved God, all people, golf, UK sports, his flower garden, studying history (especially Civil War and British), and was a voracious reader. “Well done, good and faithful servant!” – Matt 25:28.A special thanks to the personnel at UK Chandler Medical Center and Markey Cancer Research Center who lovingly cared for him.
