James Murphy, 98, widower of Alma Beatrice Carpenter Murphy, of Jessamine Avenue, died Sunday, February 14, 2016. Mr. Murphy was a former employee of Stratton Lumber, member of the Assembly of God Church, was the first certified fireman for the City of Nicholasville, enjoyed working on watches and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. James was the son of the late James and Sallie B. Ward Murphy. Survivors include three children and their spouses, Lorene (David) Hensley, Irene (Cecil) Lane and Mary Jane (Marshall) Spradlin, grandchildren, David Hensley Jr., Scott Hensley, Steve Lane, Rosemary Livingood and Jerry Wayne Coyle, twelve great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, a special niece Frankie Ferguson as well as other family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Rose Coyle and a grandson, Richard Anthony Lane. Services will be 2:00pm Wednesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Danny Mulchay and James Humphrey officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
