Nicholasville

John Hampton Barker, 85, husband of Jean Sewell Barker, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his home in Nicholasville. He was born in Winchester, Kentucky, on August 9, 1939, to the late Powell Elmer Barker and Mary Wynn Hampton Barker. John was retired from IBM where he was an engineer for many years. He was an avid golfer, loved bluegrass music, and was a member of the Homer Ledford & Cabin Creek Band. John was a charter member of the Jessamine Christian Church, as well as their first trustee. He was a beloved father and grandfather whose family meant everything to him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean; daughters, Katherine Hampton Propps (Jeff), Anne Barker Minton (Jeff), Denise Cox Wiley (Ronnie), and Crystal Cox Baker (Jonathan); nine grandchildren who he loved so much; five adorable great-grandchildren; and his four-legged buddy, Chocolate. In addition to his parents, Elmer and Mary, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Wynn Barker Kincaid. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, at Jessamine Christian Church with Pastor Lee Faust and Pastor Wally Rendel officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the time of service, Saturday, at the church. Memorial contributions are recommended to go to the Jessamine Christian Church Building Fund.
