John D. Bentley, 94, husband of Betty Ann Sturgeon Bentley, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, at his home in Nicholasville, Kentucky. John was born in Knott County, Kentucky on April 15, 1930, to the late Luther Bates and Matilda Terry. He was a member and Head Deacon of Tabernacle Baptist Church, a retired Square D employee, and an Army Veteran. Additional survivors include a daughter and her husband, Karen and Larry Roberts, a son and his wife, Philip and Debbie Bentley, granddaughter-in-law, Lindsey Bentley, great-granddaughter, Taegan Allene Bentley, two step-daughters, Deeandra Teel and Heather Dawson and husband, Tony, step-son, Jonathon David, and wife, Bryanna, step-grandchildren, Colton David, Gunnar David, Ellieana David, Eden David, and Haley-Ann David, father-in-law, Ray Sturgeon, and his Special Buddy, Clayton Beaty. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Melvina Amburgey Bentley, a daughter, Peggy Lynn Bentley, grandson, Philip Bentley, five sisters, Helen Cook, Bobbie Duncil, Joyce Brooks, Lucille Polly, and Alpha Fields. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Shumate officiating. The burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Bearers will be Pastor Shumate, Ron Bowman, Jonathon David, John Wallace, Allen “Doodle” Peel, Clayton Beaty, Cody Shumate, Andrew Massengale, Ryan Woodall, and Jeff Fryman. Honorary bearers will be James Logsdon, Jerry Littrell, and Tim Jufer. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
