Wilmore-John Conway, 87, widower of Lemira Lane Conway, of East Main Street, died December 19, 2009 at Thompson-Hood Veterans Center. He born in Woodford County, son of the late Joe and Maude Honican Conway. Mr. Conway served as Sheriff of Jessamine County in 1973-74, was the Assistant Police Chief in Wilmore, was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WW II and receiving the Silver Star, two bronze stars and a Purple Heart. He was an auctioneer for over 40 years, served the Jessamine Co. School System driving bus No. 11, was a constable for the Lee District, and former member of the Jessamine Co. Rescue and Recovery Squad. John was also a farmer and country store owner. Survivors include two sons, John T. Conway-Wilmore and Darryl M. (Catherine) Conway-Fisherville, KY, a granddaughter, Caitlyn Marie Conway. Services will be 11:00am Wednesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Dr. Dean Cook and Chief Steve Bovin officiating. Visitation will be 5-8pm today. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
