John Richard Ballard, 81, husband of Barbara Ann Cobb Ballard for 57 years, died Friday, September 5, 2008. John was born June 28, 1927 in Fayette County to the late Jessie Edward and Kathryn Prather Ballard. He was a retired farmer, graduate of Transylvania University and member of the Coffee Club at McDonalds. Additional survivors are a daughter, Anna Kathryn Ballard-Nicholasville, a son, John Edward Ballard-Atlanta,GA, a grandchild, Barbara Leanne Johnson, three great grandchildren, Savannah Crawley, Presley and Mason Johnson-Nicholasville, two sisters, Elizabeth Hester-Lexington and Juanita Nell (Ray) Varney-Dayton, WA and a brother, Robert (Betty) Ballard-Lexington. Services will be 1:00pm Tuesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Agnew and Rev. Gorman Parrish officiating and burial to follow in Prather Cemetery on Jacks Creek Pike. Visitation will be today from 5:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Bearers will be Clarence -Red- Stephens, Paul Hendrix, John Cobb, Robert Ballard, -Nookie- Stotts and Galen Crawley. Honorary bearers will be Gene Walker, Ed Hager, Billy Fount House, Harold Prather, Gary Simpson, Mark Bird, Todd Barnes, Bill Fortner, Jimmy Parton, David Jacobs, Lorne Shearer and his Coffee Buddies.
