Nicholasville-John S. Mathews, 85, widower of Nannie Katherine Marshall Mathews, of Mathews Lane, died June 23, 2010 after a brief illness. He was a retired employee of Kuhlman Electric in Versailles and was a farmer. Mr. Mathews was also a member of the Nicholasville United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a native of Jessamine County, son of the late Pleas and Mary Alice Kiger Mathews and step son of the late Fannie Dean Mathews. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Collins and her husband, Barry, and Sherry Mathews and her fianc-e, Brian Taylor, grandchildren, Stacy Collins and Brett Collins and his wife Alissa, a great grandchild, Callie Collins, a sister, Marjorie Holder and brothers Kenneth, Bobby and David Mathews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Mathews Riley and Angela King, two grandsons, Sean King and Jason Dickenson and a sister Marita Nelson. Services will be 10:30am Friday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Falin officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8pm today.
