Johnny Masters

Johnny Masters, 69, husband of his devoted wife of 45 years, Wanda -Gayle- Cartwright Masters, went home to his Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2009 after a short illness at home. Johnny was born February 21, 1940 in Jessamine County, KY, the youngest child of the late George and Lucy Puckett Masters of Nicholasville. He is also survived by his two daughters, Sherry (Jeff) Webb-Nicholasville and Jennifer (Lee) Shearer-Lexington, a son, Johnny -JJ-Masters-Nicholasville and one red headed nephew he called Son, Johnny Edward (April) Masters-Nicholasville, seven grandchildren, Linsey ( Ray) Barnett, Jeffery Michael Webb, Tyler and Tori Shearer, Bo, Autum and Ali -Too Much- Masters along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a long standing friend, Herbert (Martha) Caudill. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Hager Satterly and Carrie Bell Jones, three brothers, Jack, George Jr. and Virgil -Cubby- Masters. Among the accomplishments in his life he was very proud to have been a former Nicholasville Police officer (1966), holding public office as a Magistrate for seven years and being honored as a Kentucky Colonel. He retired from McKechnie Vehicle Components in 2002 after twenty one and a half years of dedicated service. Johnny was a life long avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and catching a few turtles from time to time, raised his own meats, processing them himself and was best known for the many generations of hunting Beagles he loved raising. Services will be 10:30 Tuesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Bearers will be JJ and Johnny Edward Masters, Jeff and Michael Webb, Lee and Tyler Shearer. Alternate bearers will be Ray Barnett and Herbert Caudill. Honorary bearers will be Linsey Barnett, Tori Shearer, Bo, Autum, Madison and Seth Masters and -Waddles'.
