Keith Alan Nichol, 74, devoted husband of 48 years to Beth Hobson Nichol, passed away on October 12, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington after a long battle against kidney disease. He was born on December 28, 1948, in Moline, Illinois. Keith's journey was marked by his distinguished service as a US Army Veteran, where he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. He was an Airborne Ranger. He served as a Drill Sgt, a Platoon Sgt in Panama, a Ranger school instructor, and ended his career as an instructor at the West Point Military Academy. He was known as a warm-hearted, easy-going, and remarkably capable man whose true joy was found on the water fishing or building outside, often with his wife by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Beth, children, Doug (Amy) Nichol, Marsha (Bill) Holgorsen, Melissa Nichol, Heather (Matt) Short, and Karen (Matthew) Cosgrove, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, along with a sister, Gerie (Bob) Weiland.
A private graveside service to honor Keith will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Keith's memory to the Lexington VA Medical Center, where he received exceptional medical care for many years (https://www.pay.gov/public/form/start/48003968/). To share your condolences and memories, an online guestbook has been set up at www.BettsandWestFuneralHome.com, where you can pay tribute to this extraordinary man.
