Kenneth Lee Harp, 66, husband of 44 years to Julia Kay Strunk Harp, died October 1, 2013. He was the son of the late James Elijah and Bettie Elizabeth Shearer Harp. He was the former Police Chief and officer for the City of Nicholasville with 26 years of service, a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Hedgeville Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and fishing. Additional survivors include three children, Kelly Harp (Scott) Bokros, Scott (Tracy) Harp and Bradley Harp, grandchildren, Lauren (Darryl) Kidwell, Ryan (Ashley) Couch, Kelsey Couch, Carson and Bryce Harp, Derek Patrick, Brittany Montgomery and Starr Lewis, great grandchildren, Michael, Madison and Bailey Kidwell and Tyler Couch, special niece and nephew, Jeff Douglas and Karen Couch as well as numerous additional family members. He was preceded in death by six siblings. Services will be 1:00pm Saturday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Ferris officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Friday. Bearers will be Arnold Prewitt, Carl Perkins, Melvin Price, John Branscum, Mike Garrett and Todd Sponcil. Honorary bearers will be Cecil Gayhart, Danny Burner, Robert Sallee and Patt Ashcraft. Donations are suggested to the Fallen Officers Fund and Heritage Hospice.
