Luther Lee 'Skeeter' Burns, 85, husband of Wilma Jean Thompson Burns of sixty two years, died Friday, April 11, 2014. He was born March 3, 1929, in Oneida, KY, son of the late Hugh and Laura Allen Burns. Skeeter was a retired teacher, member of Porter Memorial Baptist Church, member of the Gideon's International, served many years as a Sunday school teacher and deacon, member of the Masonic Lodge, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He enjoyed camping, traveling and storytelling.
Survivors include three children, Daniel Lee (Andrea) Burns, Pamela Kay (Doug) Pierce, Richard Preston (PJ) Burns, seven grandchildren; Christy (Mike) Reynolds, Becky (Eric) Davis, Joe (Trina) Pierce, Tim Pierce, LeAnne Burns, Andy Burns and Lydia Burns, six great grandchildren, Ashton Davis, Riley Davis, Cameron Davis, Jesse Pierce, Avery Reynolds and Audrey Reynolds, five siblings, Julia Anderson, Betty Major, Rose Lawhorn, Jim Burns and Pete Burns and other family members. Service will be 1:00 pm Monday at Betts & West Funeral Home, Nicholasville, KY, with Dr. David Cook officiating. Graveside service will be 4:00 pm Monday in Maxiline Baker Cemetery in Oneida, KY with Bro. Richie Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 pm today at the funeral home.
