Luther "Pete" Waits

Nicholasville-Luther -Pete- Waits, 87, widower of Nora Lee Waits of South Third Street, went to his heavenly home on Saturday August 23, 2008 at the Lexington Country Place. He was born in Boyle County on November 12, 1920 to the late Robert Francis and Cora Gaddis Waits. Pete was a farmer until his retirement in 1982. He was then commissioned as a property appraiser for the state of Kentucky in obtaining highway rights of way. He helped found Calvary Baptist Church on Shun Road in Nicholasville where he served as a deacon and trustee. Calvary Baptist Church became Lighthouse Baptist Church when the two churches merged in 1996. Pete was and avid fisherman and loved people, especially little children and he would always carry pockets full of candy to give to the little ones at church on Sunday. He will be remembered for his quick wit and strong work ethic. Survivors include his daughter Ann Carol Faulkner and her husband Paul Faulkner, two brothers, Ray and Harold Waits, both of Jessamine Co., and a sister, Nancy Ray of Texas. He was preceded in death by a step mother who raised him from age five, Bessie Thornton Waits, two brothers, Hartful and Alvin -Buster- Waits, and a precious daughter, Nancy Kay Waits Shaffer. Services will be 11:00am Wednesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Bearers will be Bro. John Ritchie, Myron Howe, Pastor Ed Schwarz, Virgil -Poochie- Burton, Charles Stinnett and Tom East.
