Maria Livingston

Maria Livingston, 93 the wife of G. Herbert Livingston went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 20, 2009 in the hospice care unit at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born in Munster, Holland to Burt and Nellie Saarloos who immigrated to the USA in 1920 with her older sister Lucy. They lived in northwestern Iowa until moved to Timber Lake, SD, where she graduated from High School. Maria also graduated from Wessington Springs College, in SD. where she met her husband. They have been married for 71 years and 9 months. They have lived in Wisconsin, Iowa, Kentucky, New York, South Dakota and then moved back to Wilmore in 1953 where her husband was a Professor at Asbury Seminary. During this time Maria served many years playing the piano, organ and singing in the churches they pastored, teaching typing, sewing for hospitals, secretary of the Alumni Assoc. and assistant to the Registrar at Asbury Seminary.

Maria-s parents and two sisters, Lucy and Jeanette preceded her in death. Maria is survived by two sisters: Tillie Radermacker of Spartenburg, SC and Fanny Summerfield or West Bend, WI and one brother William Saarloos of Arkansas, her husband G. Herbert Livingston of Wilmore, KY. three children: Burton of Ann Arbor, MI., Nellie Kester, of Wilmore, KY, and David of Lexington, TN. She has eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family funeral and burial took place grave side on Saturday, May 23th at the Blue Grass Gardens. Betts and West Funeral Home assisted in the arrangements. A memorial service was held at the Wilmore Free Methodist Church Sunday evening, May 24th. Maria was the last of the founding members of the Free Methodist congregation formed in Wilmore in 1947. Dr. Daryl Diddle, senior pastor and Dr. Dean Cook, pastor emeritus of the Wilmore Free Methodist Church conducted the services.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either the building fund of the Wilmore Free Methodist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
