Marty Seitz, 68, beloved husband of Judy Traina Seitz, died on Friday, March 7, 2025 at UK Albert Chandler Hospital after several heart surgeries. He was born in Winchester, VA, to the late Martin G. and Oneida Seitz. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy, children Jennifer Rebcca Reynolds, (LFUCG Councilmember), and Matthew (Mandi) Seitz, and grandchildren Isaac Reynolds and Henri and Jane Seitz. Additional survivors include his brothers, Ridge (Nancy) Seitz and Bill Seitz, and his sister, Melanie (Joel) Leipprandt, and numerous treasured nieces and nephews.
Marty received his undergraduate college degree in psychology from Asbury College (now University) in Wilmore, KY, and then completed one year of graduate work in Bible and theology from Asbury Theological Seminary. He went on to receive a master’s degree (MEd) in community counseling from Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, GA, and a diploma in Christian counseling from the Psychological Studies Institute (PSI, now Richmont University). After completing his doctoral coursework at GSU, Marty was commissioned as a captain in the United States Army in the Medical Services Corps and completed a clinical psychology internship, approved by the American Psychological Association, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Augusta, GA. Marty completed his military service at the Ireland Army Community Hospital at Fort Knox, KY. He received his PhD in counseling psychology and became a licensed psychologist in Kentucky in 1989.
Marty taught psychology at Asbury University for 32 years. He cared deeply for his students as he did for his family. He had the reputation of being an extremely creative and supportive professor. In addition to teaching, he counseled in the Lexington area, most recently at Access Wellness Center. He was well liked and respected both by clients and colleagues.
He would do anything for his family and took great care of them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He loved the beach, swimming, which most often was actually floating in the pool, napping, drinking coffee with friends and family, watching movies, reading lots and lots of books, and recommending them to others. One of his favorite roles was that of Abuelito/Grandpa to his three grandchildren.
His memorial service will be held at St. Luke Church, 2351 Alumni Dr., Lexington, KY 40517 on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 12 pm with visitation immediately prior to the service from 10:00 am to 12 pm.
