Mary Lou Brown Byrd, 90, of Nicholasville, KY died in her home on Sugar Creek Pike on Thursday, Aug.14, 2015. Born on Burning Fork, Magoffin Co, KY. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Ivon Byrd; one son in Florence, OR; a daughter in Burlington, KY and a daughter in Florence, KY; a step-daughter and a step-son in Nicholasville, KY; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister and one brother in Salyersville, KY. She was preceded in death by a beloved son; six brothers and three sisters.

Mary Lou is a wartime veteran, having served in the W.A.A.C. (Women's Auxiliary Army Corp) during WWII. She lived a full and active life as a writer, newspaper editor and columnist; cook; singer and guitar-player, fisherman and gardener, mother, devoted friend and champion of the poor and oppressed everywhere. She requested there be no funeral service or flowers sent to her home (a donation can be made to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of one's individual choice). Mary Lou will be loved and missed by a great many friends and family members from coast to coast that she has loved, helped, touched. Her

ashes will be interred at Camp Nelson Cemetery in a private ceremony.
