Michael David Tavares, 60, died December 17, 2008 at the University of Louisville Hospital. He was a retired Command Sgt. Major in the US Army, having served in Vietnam and the Gulf War, was also a retired Lieutenant from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Michael also owned and operated KY Freight Systems. He was born January 18, 1948 in Ketchikan, Alaska to William Christopher Tavares and the late Delores Ann Vera Tavares. Survivors are two children, Michaele S. Tavares and Micah S. Tavares and his wife Jessica, twelve brothers and sisters, his former wives and mothers of his children, Kathy M. Tavares and Edna Mae Paulman and numerous other relatives and friends. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday at Pax Christi Catholic Church, Lexington, KY. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00-8:00 pm at Betts & West Funeral Home.
