Mrs. Evelyn Hill Jewell, age 98, went to be with The Lord on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Lancaster, SC. She was born November 9, 1922 in Fayette County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Riley Hill and Verna Curry Hill and was the wife of the late George William Jewell for 74 years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, and caring for her family and friends, and enjoyed the things of nature. She and her husband moved to Lancaster in 2009 to be near family. She enjoyed being a member of Covenant Baptist Church.
Mrs. Jewell grew up on a dairy farm in Kentucky and learned to work hard at a young age. She loved The Lord who gifted her with a beautiful singing voice that she used singing in church and for many weddings and funerals throughout the community. Never meeting a stranger, she would begin a conversation with anyone around her and usually end talking about the Lord. She often encouraged others by sending notes and cards in which she included scriptures and words of love, thereby pointing many to Christ. She taught the Willing Workers Class, a Young Women’s Sunday School Class for many years at Salem Baptist Church of Southville, Kentucky.
Mrs. Jewell is survived by a son, Kent Jewell and his wife, Jean of Lancaster, SC; a daughter in law, Judy Jewell of Matthews, NC; six grandchildren, Lorie Webster, (Jason), Tamie Mann (Brian), Sherie Russ (David), Jonathan Jewell (Chanderlyn), Brent Jewell (Jess) and Suzanne Unruh (Neal); 15 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Baylie, Jacob, Austin, Paige, Khaleciah, Caroline, Sarah Kate, Riley, Emily, Allison, Heather, Lisa, David, William and John; two great-great grandchildren, Isabella and Amelia; and a niece, Jada Stucker Johnson (Ed).
