RALPH EDWARD HINES

Ralph Edward Hines, 89, of Raymore, MO, passed from this life on December 20, 2018, in the home of natural causes. He was a Baptist by faith.

He was born at Grade, in Pulaski County, Kentucky, August 17, 1929, to James S. Hines Sr. and Martha E. (Baker) Hines. He was the last of ten children. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and seven of his siblings; Marie Hines, William Hines (Lee), Porter Hines (Genevieve), Jackie Keeney (Gib), Hazel Edwards (Johnnie), Lela Peggy Murphy (Lyman), Thelma Love (Morris); Mother-in-law Marie Miller; Sisters-in-law; Betty (Bradley) Hines, Willa (Mitchell) Busse; Betty (Mitchell) Dixon; and brothers-in-law, Johnnie Edwards, Pete Hughes, Gib Keeney, Morris Love, Walter Mitchell, and Jesse Yoakum. His first wife, Thelma E. (Cox) Hines preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 24 years, Doris F. (Mitchell, Copeland) Hines; a sister, Verda Mae Hughes of Somerset, KY; a brother, James S. Hines Jr., Cincinnati, OH; Sisters-in-law Velma Webb, Richmond, IN, and Carole Yoakum, Raymore, MO; Brother-in-law, Hal Mitchell, Vail, AZ; a step-daughter, Georgia Gayle Copeland (Gail Pearson) of Overland Park, KS; a son, Michael D. Hines (Vickie Cool-Hines) of Louisville, KY; a daughter, Marie E. Hines (Bryan Norris) of Ottawa, KS. Ralph is survived by two grandchildren, Brandon Dano (Ashley Fields) of Lee’s Summit, MO; and Telana Dano Youngs (Josh) of Rome, NY. Two Great Grandchildren, Codie and Malachi Dano of Kansas City, MO survive him. He is also survived by a score of nieces and nephews in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, California and Missouri.

Ralph is both a retired U. St Army Sergeant First Class, and a Government Services Administration employee. He was drafted in 1950, serving tours of duty in West Germany, Shemya, AK, Two Rock Ranch, CA, Fort Monmouth, NJ, the American Sector in West Berlin, Vin Hill Farms, VA, Fort Huachuca, AZ, Helemano Military Reservation, Oahu, HI, multiple tours in SE Asia, and Pusan, South Korea. He retired from the U.S. Army at Fort Huachuca, AZ, in 1975. Chapters of his life after his USA retirement include Hamilton, OH and Lexington, KY. He subsequently retired from the Kansas City GSA in 1994.

Ralph was a Master Mason, a lifetime member of Berlin 46 Outpost 895, Berlin GE. He was a former member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and the Chiricahua Chapter of the Order of the Amaranth. He proudly served as a Cub Scout Pack master, Boy Scout Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Member, and a youth baseball and football coach.

He was a loving husband and father.

Visitation will be 6-7 pm Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Cullen Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7 pm. Betts & West Funeral Home in Nicholasville, KY, will host a Hines Family visitation on December 31st from 10:30am till 12:30 pm with burial at Camp Nelson National Cemetery that afternoon.
