Rebecca “Becky” Mae Whitaker, 74, widow of James Dale Whitaker, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at her home on Faulconer Drive, Nicholasville. She was born in Lexington on May 28, 1949, to the late William Cumby and Frances Cumby. Becky is survived by her daughter, Beverly Rangel (Jose Lupe); brothers, William “Bill” Cumby (Judy), and Raymond Cumby (Patsy); grandchildren, Lacy Taylor, Adriana Rangel, and Tyler Rangel; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Taylor, Christian Taylor, Eliana Rangel, and Iris Taylor; as well as very special friends, Richard and Barbara Sue Horton. In addition to her husband, James, she is preceded by one brother, Arthur “Clem” Cumby, and one great-grandchild, MacKenzie McClanahan. Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, October 26, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Fayne officiating. Burial will follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, where bearers will be Tyler Rangel, Josh Ramey, Megan Gamble, Billie Lynn Fain, Bill Cumby, and Raymond Cumby. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service, Thursday, at the funeral home. Betts & West is honored to serve Becky and the Whitaker family in their time of need.
