Rev. Orville L. Wolff, 82, of Nicholasville, devoted husband of Roberta, departed this life surrounded by family on Sunday, November 5, 2017, in Lexington, Kentucky following complications after suffering a massive heart attack.
He was born February 3, 1935, in Forbes, North Dakota, to David and Emma Wolff. He was the 8th of 11 children.
Orville was an ordained minister and he and Roberta faithfully served God wherever He called them. From 1964 – 1975, he and his family were OMS (One Mission Society) missionaries in Brazil where he taught seminary classes, helped plant churches, and assisted in starting a youth camp, among other ministries. His lifelong commitment to the Great Commission (“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:18) also included serving on OMS’s Board of Trustees and supporting missionaries of various agencies worldwide. He pastored churches in a number of states, including Illinois, South Dakota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Most recently he served as Associate Pastor at Trinity Hill United Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.
Orville loved nature and made every place he lived more beautiful. He enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in Road to Emmaus retreats, reading, golfing, fishing, and welcoming back the purple martins annually. He cherished family time and made friends everywhere he lived.
Orville is survived by Roberta, his loving wife of 59 years, and their children: Rozanne (Fr. David) Rucker, Nathan Wolff, and Ramona (Gerald) Lunsford. He has five grandchildren: Lauren (Fr. Patrick) Pulley; Ethan (Marissa) Rucker; Andrew Rucker; Ana Marie Lunsford; and Nathaniel Lunsford; and two great-grandchildren, James and Walter Pulley. He is also survived by other family members including three siblings: Jeannie, Marie, and Myron.
