Robert Eugene "Gene" Settles

Robert Eugene 'Gene' Settles, 86, widower of Anita Charbonneau Settles, entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2017. Gene was born October, 21, 1930 in Stanley, KY to the late Leo Van Buren and Mary Elizabeth Smith Settles. He was a retired employee for the United States Department of Agriculture. He was a member of the Sierra Club, Knights of Columbus, Cursillo, a volunteer for Hospice and Thompson Hood Veteran Center and was an avid golfer. Family survivors are six children, Jodi (John) Duce, Dan (Karen) Settles, Randy (Amy) Settles, Melanie Hopwood, Tim (Rachel) Settles and Jaime (Sherri) Settles, fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters, Mary Catherine Elder, Betty Howard and Joyce Fogle, one brother, Jim Settles and other family members. Gene was also preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Settles and a brother, Bill Settles. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Luke's Catholic Church with Rev. Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8pm Monday at Betts & West Funeral Home.
