Nicholasville-Robert Flournoy Simpson Jr. -Big Daddy-, 86, husband of Jane Yeary Simpson, died Friday, July 3, 2009. Flournoy was born August 1, 1922 in Lexington, Ky to the late Robert Flournoy Sr. and Norma Taylor Simpson. He was a life long resident of Jessamine County. He loved farming, life and people, especially his grandchildren who he loved to make laugh. He enjoyed through the years pitching horseshoes and coon hunting. Flournoy was a lifelong member of the Nicholasville Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He was also a member of the Jessamine County Fair Board. Additional survivors are his children, Robert Flournoy (Edwina) Simpson III of Hickman; S. Garry (Virginia J.) Simpson and Taylor (Vickie) Simpson of Jessamine County; Alta Simpson Marshall and Sue Simpson (Kevin) Mims of Fayette County, sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, cousins Lyde Simpson and Sarah Kanatzar of Nicholasville; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Nicholasville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Pamela C. Rucker officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from2:00 until 5:00 pm at Betts & West Funeral Home. Bearers will be Flournoy Simpson IV, Jeremy Simpson, Seth Marshall, Keene Simpson, Joe, Harrison and Jake Mims. Honorary bearers will be Wendell Harris, Ruben Naylor, Lloyd Pickett, -Babe- Wilson, Harold Garner, Dave Slone, George Wiggs, Jim Hukle, Don Moore, Bill Phillips and Howard Downing.
