Roger Joe Woolums, 76, husband of Judy Carol Simpson Woolums, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his home on High Bridge Road in Wilmore. He was born in Lexington on November 1, 1946, to Kelly Woolums and Laura Bell Hayden Woolums. Roger retired from IBM/Lexmark and started a second career at Kentucky Underground Storage. He was a longtime member of Mt. Freedom Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and a trustee at various times. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Judy, he is survived by his son, Joseph Brian Woolums (Tricia); daughter, Kelley R. Morris (Tim); sisters-in-law, Linda Woolums, and LuAnn Simpson Sinkhorn; brother-in-law Terrill Simpson; and grandchildren, Aaron Joseph Woolums, Emily Faye Woolums, Kayla Morris, Sammy Morris, Nick Morris, Cody Patterson, and Caitlin Ricketts; great grandchildren, R’emy and Noam; nieces Katy Simpson and Melissa Griffin. He is preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Wayne Woolums. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 9, at Mt. Freedom Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at the Wilmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Betts & West Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 1:00 – 6:00 PM. Casket bearers will be Joseph Woolums, Aaron Woolums, Terrill Simpson, David Elliott, Tim Morris, and John Olson. Honorary bearers will be John Webb and the Deacons and Fellowship Sunday School Class of Mt. Freedom Baptist Church.
