Sharon L. Estes

February 19, 1944 — March 22, 2012

Sharon L. Estes, 68, loving wife of William R. Estes, a mother and grandmother, died of cancer March 22, 2012. She was born in Washington, D.C., daughter of Norma Rose Neubauer Mackey and the late Edgar Mackey. She graduated from college in 1967 with a BS degree from Indiana University School of Business, Bloomington, IN. She worked briefly for Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis and later for Island Creek Coal Company in Lexington, KY.

While semi-retired in Florida, Sharon and her husband were members of a messianic synagogue and participated in international and national regional conferences. Sharon also taught children-s Shabbat school. She had been in Bible study groups since high school and at Indiana University helped start and organize the I.U. University Christian Fellowship on the Bloomington campus, sponsored by the Bloomington Free Methodist Church.

Sharon-s outgoing personality included being a member of the Flat Out Fun Dance Team, affiliated with the YMCA in Lexington, encouraging retirees in assisted living home to exercise for mind, body and soul.

Survivors other than her husband include two daughters, Laura Wood and Christy (Chris) Ray, two grandchildren, Jonathan Underwood and Braydon Ray, three step-daughters, Valerie (Peter) Perry, Karen Estes and Brenda Estes, two step-grandsons, Stephen and Matthew Perry, a brother Stephen (Lisa) Mackey-Durango, CO and her former husband, Dr. Laurence W. Wood. She was preceded in death by a sister Dawn G. Mackey.

Contributions are suggested to the Wilmore Free Methodist Church Foundation, Faith & Future Fund, Wilmore Free Methodist Church, 1200 Lexington Rd., Wilmore, KY 40390 or the charity of one-s choice.

Services will be 10:30am Tuesday at Wilmore Free Methodist Church with Pastor Daryl Diddle officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Monday at the church. Bearers will be Jerry Hadden, Jack Croucher, Dick King, Chris Ray, Chris Smith, Peter Perry, John and Joe Mackey.
