Staff Sgt. E6 Richard Gayle Tackett Jr., 35, a native of Stamping Ground, KY, died 9:09 A.M. September 1, 2008 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS. He served in the United States Army for 14 years. He has served in Samolia, Afghanistan, and twice in Iraq. In 2001, while in Afghanistan he, with help from home, had a truck loads of care packages sent to his fellow soldiers who were less fortunate than he was. Survivors include his wife, Martha Spakosky of Fort Riley, KS and a native of NY., four sons, Aaron, Brandon, William and Cameron Tackett of Lowville, NY, his mother Lynn (John) Frederick-Stamping Ground, father, Richard Gayle Tackett Sr.-Stamping Ground, a sister, Free Dawn Tackett Willoughby-Lexington, KY, a brother Bobby Tackett-Georgetown, two nieces, Jenny Lind Willoughby and Isabella Rivera-Lexington, maternal grandfather, Amos (Mildred) Vannarsdall, maternal grandmother, Mary Lou (Meridith) Wells-Georgetown, paternal grandmother, Arvenia Riddle Tackett-Stamping Ground, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Harold S. Tackett Sr. Services will be 11:30am Thursday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Chaplin Jim Harrison.
