Virginia Lorene Shewmaker

Virginia Lorene Guffey Shewmaker, 80 wife of Donald Shewmaker, died Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Baptist Health Lexington. She was born in Bethesda, Kentucky on September 13, 1938 to the late Walter and Iola Coyle Guffey. Virginia was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, retired after 30 years of service from the G.E. Lamp Plant in Lexington, Kentucky and after retirement worked as a seamstress for the Jessamine Cleaners. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters. Emily and Kayla have many stories to tell of their time with their grandmother who they referred to as the “Best Granny that there ever was.” In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Bobby) Sams, two granddaughters, Emily (Steven) Heggie and Kayla Sams, sister, Faye Crowe of Nicholasville and two brothers, Jackie and Jimmie Guffey both of Florida. Betts & West Funeral Home is honored to serve the Shewmaker Family. Joint services for Virginia and Donald will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Bro. Basil Hall, Bro. DeWayne Brewer and Jay Webb officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until time of service Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
