William “Bill” Dean Deering, died Saturday, October 23, 2021, in Lexington,
Kentucky.
William Dean Deering was born in 1940 in Garrard County to parents
Mattie Ruth and Daniel Deering. At the age of 15, he began learning the
plumbing trade. He not only mastered plumbing but mastered other skills,
including mechanics.
A highly sought after plumber and jack of all trades, Bill loved nothing more
than completing jobs still present in our community, including My Old
Kentucky Dinner Train and a variety of schools across the Bluegrass.
Bill loved his family dearly, enjoyed traveling, and, of course, enjoyed a
good game of cards. You’d often find him at the lake fishing or catching a
game of pool with whoever happened to stop by the house for a visit. Bill’s
sense of humor was contagious and he loved to joke with those around
him, which was often followed by a smile, nudge, and wink for added effect.
He loved westerns and classic country tunes and will be dearly missed by
those who knew him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Ruth Deering and Daniel
Deering; his siblings Claire Ritchy, Wanda Corman, Jack Deering, and wife
of 58 years, Mary “Darlene” Deering.
He is survived by his wife Leeta “Tootsie” Deering; his children Linda Reitz
(Kevin), Gary Deering (Judy), Tommy Deering; his step-children Billy Joe
Welch and Ricky Welch; his siblings, Janice Hannah, Danny Deering,
Patricia Cifton, and Bobby Joe Deering; 7 grandchildren; 15 great
grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday 5 to 8 & Saturday 9 to 11am. Funeral will be
Saturday 11am at Betts & West Funeral Home.
